Dynamic Smart Search

  • Official comment

    hi Moshe

We won't be developing dynamic smart search. There is no correlation at all between the filters across the top bar and the smart search. Smart search is a global setting on the order. All the configured Smart Search filters will show at all times, no matter what filter or main category you are on within the order.

However, if you select a main category "Cloths" and a Filter "All" , you will see all cloths, and then when you want to filter by Smart Search only the options that are relevant to Cloths will have values in the Smart search. So, you will not see values for "Age" and "Type" when you open that smart search filtering menu.

I realize it makes the Smart Search bar more crowded and reps will need to know what they should filter by, however they can't select filter values that don't make sense because Pepperi at least won't display those values  that are irrelevant to the category in the menu.

    Does that make sense?

The only way to make different smart search options for Cloths and for Toys, would be to make a separate transaction type for each, so you would have rather than just "Sales Order" - 2 order types:

Cloths Order and Toys Order, each with only their respective items and a different smart search configured for those items.

This is probably not relevant to you, because you most probably need customers to place orders that contain both toys and cloths, and you wouldn't want to inconvenience them to place 2 separate orders. Also, I'm not sure how many of these category types you have, in which case, you wouldn't want to have too many order types.

    Hello Merav,

    Thanks for your detailed response.

However, I must admit I don't quite understand the resistance to implementing dynamic search in the future.  It seems to me a very basic option.  For example, if I go to Amazon and browse different categories, the faceted search on the side changes according to the Category.  That's how it should work.

With that said, I think that there is a simple solution that you guys can implement.  You can just do a check to see if a Smart Search menu contains any values.  If not, then don't display it.

For example, if I'm on the Cloths section -- I can do a test.  Does Size contain any values within it?  Yes -- display.  Does Age contain any values within it?  No - don't display.

That way you can keep the per transaction aspect, but prevent overcrowding.

Either way -- for our needs, this is an important feature.

    Thanks and be well,
