Users of the Pepperi mobile apps can use the device camera to scan UPC codes and automatically add items to the order. You can also pair a  Bluetooth bar-code scanner to add items to an order.

This can be very efficient for buyers who are using the Pepperi B2B eCommerce app on their mobile phones or tablets to walk around the retail locations and scan items directly from the shelves to add to an order.

Use the device camera to scan a code and the item search result will be presented in the catalog (unit quantity will not be added). This is a quick way to search for an item in the Order Center using a bar-code. To add items to the order use the "Barcode View" (explained below).

Bluetooth Scanners and Accessories

You will need to purchase a Bluetooth barcode scanner. Make sure the scanner is compatible with your mobile device.

Scanners we have worked with and tested:

2. Socket mobile CHS Series - CHS7ci

Some useful accessories to have are:

• Hand strap to hold you tablet while using the scanner with the other hand
• Retractable key holder to keep the scanner on your belo - or a lanyard for around your neck. 

Pepperi  does not sell or support the barcode scanner hardware.

 Item UPC Codes

Make sure you have uploaded UPC codes for your items when you imported your item data.

The field "UPC" is used for this purpose, and should be mapped when loading your Item data. For details on uploading a UPC field for your items see: How To Import Your Items.

Creating bar-codes is very simple. You can do it for free with the following website (an example, there are also others): http://www.barcodesinc.com/generator/index.php

Test the Scanner

Pair the bar-code scanner to your tablet in the settings panel (usually once you pair it to one tablet it cannot be used by another until you unpair it).

To test the scanner open a "Notes" app and scan a bar code. If the code is displayed the scanner is ready for use. 

Select "Barcode" view from the Order Center views on Pepperi:

Start scanning in your codes. They will be added to the order with a quantity of 1 each time they are scanned. 

If a code is not found in Pepperi, a short sound will be played.

You can configure the Barcode Grid/Line Views to show the fields you require: Configure Order Center Views.

You may edit the quantities in the Unit Quantity field. To change to another Order Center view tap on the views menu again,  or tap the cart on the bottom of the screen when you are done to submit the order.

If you are scanning in Styles with Variants (color and size or other) all variants of the style will be added. 

If you aren't connected to a Bluetooth device (scanner/keyboard), then the on screen keyboard automatically comes up when you tap inside the search box, until you tap it to go down (bring it up again by tapping in the search box).

If you are connected to a Bluetooth device (scanner/keyboard) then the on screen keyboard will not pop up. In case of scanning in a barcode, but then needing to edit the scanned code or the unit quantity, you can bring up the on screen keyboard by tapping on the native iOS control in the bottom right corner.
