A Matrix setup, is when an item has one or two variants (most commonly size and color).
Before proceeding with this article, please read the following basic Matrix in Pepperi explanation
Generally speaking, Quickbooks does not support matrix setup. It can be setup however using Quickbooks custom fields. For any help in creating Custom Fields in Quickbooks please consult the Quickbooks manual.
For example: create a new custom field for your items called Color, and another one called Size. Populate your items data with appropriate color and size information for each item. Note: all fields must be populated with data, they can not be left blank. if there is no value to input add N/A or something similar. If there is only one variant per (even if that variant is a color variant on one item, and a size variant on another item) add just one custom field called variant, and map your data as a one dimensional matrix.
In addition, all variants must be grouped under a single parent code or style name. Add an additional custom field in Quickbooks which you can call Parent. Group populate that field with a general description of the item. Be sure to copy paste this description across all other items which are related variants. This parent code you are now creating will be the name of the item as it seen on the catalog. Pressing it, will reveal all the variants underneath it.
